Canada Skilled Worker Immigration - Points Based

Your application to come to Canada as a skilled worker will also be assessed against a point system consisting of six selection factors. You can assess your qualifications using the skilled worker self-assessment test from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The current pass mark is 67 points for all factors combined. The six selection factors are:

If your score is the same or higher than the pass mark, then you may qualify to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker. Review the information about immigrating to Canada as a skilled worker and decide if you want to apply.

NOTE THAT, there is an important change in application criteria. You have to have your language tests results prior to make any application and that should not be more than one year old.

You should not submit your test results (IELTS or other approved tests) or written submission to the Centralized Intake Office (CIO) in Sydney, Nova Scotia Canada along with your application. If the application is recommended for further processing, the test results or written submission should be submitted to the responsible Visa Office.

FACTOR 1 # EDUCATION

Points are awarded for earned educational credentials as well as the number of years of full-time studies or full-time equivalent studies. To be awarded points, you must meet both stated criteria.
Full-time studies: At least 15 hours of instruction per week during the academic year. This includes any period of workplace training that forms part of the course.
Full-time equivalent studies: If you completed a program of study on a part-time or accelerated basis, count the length of time it would have taken to complete the program on a full-time basis.

The ability to communicate and work in one or both of Canada’s official languages is very important to you as a skilled worker. Proficiency in English, French or both will help you in the Canadian labor market.

Experience is defined as continuous full-time or equivalent part-time paid work experience. You will earn points for the number of years you have spent in full-time (37.5 hours per week), paid work.

You must meet the following minimum work experience requirements to be eligible to apply as a skilled worker:

  • You must have at least one continuous year of full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment.
  • Your work experience must be in an occupation of Skill Type 0, or Skill Level A or B of the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC). See below for instructions on determining the NOC category for your work experience.
  • You must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

  • have an offer of arranged employment, OR
  • be a foreign national who has been living legally in Canada for one year as a temporary foreign worker or an international student, OR

Factor 6 # Adaptability

If you have a spouse or common-law partner, points for each element can be awarded only once, either for you or for your spouse or common-law partner (except for the points under Adaptability criteria “A” below).
Use the chart below to determine your points. Even if you qualify under several criteria, you will be awarded a maximum of 10 points.

  • You or your accompanying spouse or common-law partner completed a minimum of one year of full-time work in Canada on a valid work permit.

D. Arranged employment:

  • You earned points under Factor 5: Arranged Employment.

E. Relatives in Canada:

  • You or your accompanying spouse or common-law partner has a relative, i.e., parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, child of a parent, (sibling), child of a grandparent, (aunt/uncle), or grandchild of a parent, (niece or nephew), who lives in Canada and is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Major Criteria to look into to be successful

  • You are in good health
  • You do not have any criminal convictions in your country or where you lived in from the age of 18
  • You have good command in English (IELTS band score 6.0 or equivalent)
  • Your spouse have reasonable command in English (IELTS band score 4.5 or equivalent)
  • Your spouse is a university graduate

 

Do you have sufficient funds?

You must show that you have enough money to support yourself and your family members after you arrive in Canada. The money must be available to support the costs of living for yourself and your family. The amount is an estimate of what you would require to support yourself and your family without employment or other income. You cannot borrow this money from another person or Bank.
The amount of money you need to support your family is determined by the size of your family. These amounts are updated every year. Below is a guideline of fund.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The Canadian Federal government has introduced PNP which facilitates foreign people to come and settle in specific provinces which required high number of skilled professional & workers. The process is much easier and faster (2-10 months) to get clearance to migrate to these regions in Canada. Currently, PNP exist in the following provinces and territories:

Information Technology Workers Program

The Canadian government is currently issuing temporary employment authorization visas under an expedited process, to qualified professionals and skilled persons under the "Information Technology Workers Program". Qualified individuals must meet certain requirements in terms of education and employment experience in order to qualify for the work visa. Following experts can apply under this program:

Canada Business Immigration

Entrepreneur Class
This program provides permanent residence to those applicants who demonstrate an ability to become economically established in Canada on the basis of their business experience and significant personal net worth.

The centerpiece of the program is that the entrepreneur invests and becomes involved in the active management of a qualifying business operated in Canada that will contribute to the economy and create employment.

The basic criteria are:

  1. The applicant must have managed a qualifying business and have controlled an adequate percentage of equity of that business for at least two years in the period of five years preceding the application;
  2. Have a personal net worth of $300,000;
  3. And finally, undertake to control at least 33% of the equity of a qualifying Canadian business. Furthermore, the applicant must provide active and ongoing management of the qualifying Canadian business that will create at least one incremental full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Investor Immigrant Visas (Federal Investment Class):

Under this program, an applicant’s investment is remitted to provinces, which will be used to help finance small businesses or provincial infrastructure. As an investor, the applicant makes a prescribed investment of CDN $400,000. This investment is placed with the Receiver General of Canada.

Approximately five years after becoming a permanent resident, the Canadian government returns the investment, without interest, to the applicant.

To be considered an investor, the applicant must:

  1. have business experience;
  2. have legally obtained net worth of at least CDN $800,000;
  3. and Indicate in writing to an officer that they intend to make or have made an investment.

We have alternate funding assistance. Under this scheme, you have to transfer & invest rest CDN $100,000 into HSBC Bank Nominated Account and rest will be funded by HSBC or any other government approved financial institution. After lapse of five years, you will be refunded back your investment without interest and after deducting funding interest and other charges.

There are certain criteria to be considered when evaluating business experience under the investment class. Precisely, the applicant must show that they have managed a qualifying business for at least two years in the five years preceding the application, and that the applicant has managed at least five full-time employees during this same time period.

This program differs slightly from the Entrepreneur Program, in that the Investor is not intended to become actively involved in the management of a qualifying Canadian Business.

Self Employed Immigrant Visa:
This program is aimed at persons with relevant experience in world-class athletics or cultural activities or with farm management experience, who have the intention and ability to become self-employed in Canada. Minimum investment is CAD $ 100,000.

Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW):

Under this category, foreign skilled worker may come and work for certain level of years subject to you have a definite job offer and your sponsor (employer) is interested to accommodate you in the work place and able to pay and accommodate you in your workplace. TFW workers may be able to migrate to Canada if they fulfill certain requirements within their stipulated agreement period of service or any extended thereof.
